Air China has become the second airline to operate revenue flights with the COMAC C919, a new home-made commercial aircraft.
The carrier deployed its sole aircraft, registered B-919X, on the Beijing-Shanghai route on September 10 and flew to Hangzhou the following day.
The jet is configured with 158 seats in two classes, eight in Business Class and the rest in Economy Class.

The C919 made its maiden revenue flight with China Eastern Airlines in May 2023, five months after its delivery. The Shanghai-based carrier already has seven of the type in its fleet.
Air China’s first C919 was delivered by COMAC in a joint ceremony with another aircraft to China Southern Airlines on August 28.
Both have firm orders for 100 of the aircraft, which will be delivered by the early 2030s.
China Southern has scheduled the C919 B-919J to debut on routes between Guangzhou and Shanghai from September 19.
The aircraft is currently conducting familiarization flights to several Chinese cities in preparation for its debut.
