Air Greenland has announced a leasing agreement with Carlyle to operate an Airbus A320neo from 2027.
The aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in December 2026 and enter service from spring 2027. The agreement has a term of six years and may be extended.
The A320neo will be the first narrowbody aircraft for Air Greenland, whose fleet is based on the Dash 8-200 turboprop, of which it has eight aircraft in operation.

In addition, the airline has a single widebody A330-800, received in December 2022 and which replaced an A330-200. This 305-seat, two-class aircraft operates scheduled flights to Copenhagen, Denmark.
The A320neo is expected to fly between Ilulissat, which will have a new airport in 2026, and the Danish capital, complementing the A330neo, Air Greenland says.

“The delivery time for new Airbus aircraft is currently 6-7 years, so we have chosen to lease the aircraft to be ready when the new international airport in Ilulissat opens and to gain financial flexibility as the route is still new,” said Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of the airline.
Dash-8 pilots are retrained
Like the A330-800, the A320neo will also have its maintenance base in Copenhagen under an agreement with SAS.
In addition to the widebody crew, who are capable of flying the A320neo, Air Greenland will train Dash-8 pilots to complement the workforce needed to operate it.
Air Greenland has not yet revealed what seating configuration the new aircraft will have.
