Airbus again did not obtain new orders for its commercial aircraft in May, but at least avoided cancellations. The planemaker maintained a total of 299 net orders in 2020, thanks to a small increase in April. On deliveries, the company increased the number of aircraft shipped to its customers from 14 in April to 24 units last month.
Models that had been stored at Airbus plants for many weeks were returned to delivery, as was the case with the A220-300, which had two units received by Air Canada.
Another jet that had been out for a long time was the A350-1000, Airbus’ largest aircraft after the A380. British Airways and Etihad received one unit each, something that has not happened since February 27 when Qatar Airways received another model.
Of the 24 aircraft delivered, 12 were of the A320neo model, the most popular by Airbus. The airline Indigo received four of them, in addition to two other A321neo. The Indian company has a huge order for 730 A320neo family aircraft, of which 117 have been delivered.
May also marked the delivery of the first A320neo to Hungary’s Wizz Air. Airline belonging to the investment fund Indigo Partners, the company has an order for 65 planes in addition to 211 A321neo – the first of which had been delivered in 2019.
The most unusual delivery, however, was an A319ceo for Tibet Airlines, which took place on May 29. The aircraft was the last of a total order for 25 jets.
