Jetliner still unheard of in South America, the A220 will make its debut in the region in April. In a statement, Airbus confirmed the presence of the aircraft at FIDAE 2022, the largest air show in Latin America, which will be held in Santiago de Chile from April 5th.

The event in Chile will be the starting point of an A220 tour of the continent, including Brazil, where Embraer, which produces the rival of the Airbus jet, is based.

The passage through São Paulo, the largest Brazilian city, will take place on April 12, as reported by Airway. The A220 should have participated in the 2020 edition of FIDAE, but the plan ended up frustrated with the advance of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The aircraft that will fly to South America will be an A220-300 belonging to Swiss International Air Lines. The carrier was the launch customer for the aircraft in 2016, when it was still called CSeries and belonged to Bombardier – Airbus took over the program in 2018 and renamed it the A220.

Airbus also confirmed the presence of other aircraft at the event such as the new H145, the C295 maritime patrol aircraft and the A330 MRTT multi-mission freighter, which the Brazilian Air Force intends to order for the task of aerial refueling and transport.

The A220 series, which also includes the A220-100 model, is the main competitor of Embraer’s E2 family, offered in the E190-E2 and E195-E2 versions.
