Finally in August Boeing had something to celebrate. The U.S. planemaker won the first orders for the 737 Max since the grounding of the aircraft in 2019 and accumulated more orders than its rival, Airbus, which ended the month with only one new aircraft sold, an A320neo executive.
In total, five 737 Max jets were ordered, two for Poland’s Enter Air, and another three for an unidentified customer. EVA Air also struck a deal for three Boeing 777Fs.
Boeing also expanded its deliveries in August, with 13 planes shipped to its customers. Four of these aircraft, however, were military versions, two P-8 Poseidon (737) for the US Navy and two KC-46 tank planes for the US Air Force.
The remaining nine jets were all wide-bodies: three 777F, two 767-300F and four 787-9 delivered to companies such as ANA, Fedex, Lufthansa, Vistara and United.
Airbus, on the other hand, had a drop in the pace of deliveries. The manufacturer delivered 39 jets, 35 of them from the A320 family, plus an A330-900neo for Orbest, two A350-900 and an A330-200 for military application. In July, the company had managed to deliver 49 aircraft.
Despite the slightly favorable scenario for Boeing, in 2020, Airbus continues to dominate orders and deliveries. The European airframer has already delivered 284 planes this year compared to 87 by Boeing. Airbus also added 303 orders to its portfolio while the US planemaker has a negative balance of 378 units, mostly due to cancellations of the 737 Max.
