Jet2.com, a low cost airline based in Leeds, UK, has signed an agreement with Airbus to receive 36 A321neo jets.

The leisure carrier currently operates a fleet consisting of 90 Boeing 737 and 757 aircraft, but was not interested in remaining a customer of the American manufacturer in its fleet renewal plan.

Jet2.com’s A321neo will be configured in single class with 232 seats and an ‘Airspace’ standard cabin. The engines will still be chosen between the Pratt & Whitney PW1000G or the Leap-1, by CFM.

“Jet2.com will be proud to operate the Airbus A321neo in the years ahead. This aircraft is, in our opinion, the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class today – it will give our holiday customers a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience as they travel with us for their well-deserved Jet2holiday,” said Philip Meeson, CEO.

Jet2.com becomes a new customer of Airbus and the A320neo family. The option for the higher capacity variant A321neo reinforces the preference that the model has shown in new orders placed by the European planemaker.

Without a direct competitor, the A321neo became the only single-aisle airplane option with large passenger capacity and range. Boeing is working on the certification of the 737 MAX 10, however, the aircraft offers less range and seats than its rival.

Airbus has not revealed when Jet2.com’s first A321neo will be delivered.
