Cathay Pacific has once again selected Airbus for a new aircraft order, this time to replace its A330-300s with the A330-900.
The Hong Kong-based carrier has placed a firm order for 30 A330neo aircraft to be delivered from 2028 to 2031.
“We are delighted to announce this new order for state-of-the-art A330neo aircraft. The A330 is an aircraft type that has been serving Cathay Pacific well for nearly 30 years. These new aircraft will primarily serve our regional destinations in Asia, while also providing the flexibility to serve longer-haul destinations as required,” said Ronald Lam, Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer.
“This latest order from Cathay, one of the world’s most experienced A330 operators, is a major endorsement of the latest generation A330neo. It is the natural successor for existing A330 fleets, bringing the highest levels of technical and operational commonality, and significant reductions in fuel consumption and carbon emissions,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Executive Officer, Commercial Aircraft.

The A330-900 is capable of flying 7,200 nm (13,330 km) but Cathay Pacific intends to initially use it on routes in Asia.
The agreement with Airbus includes options for an additional 30 aircraft of the type. Cathay currently has 43 A330-300s with an average age of 16 years.
The new agreement reinforces the airline’s preference for Airbus, with which it has signed contracts for A320 and A350 family jets, including the new A350F freighter.
