Almost two months after being approved by the Brazilian civil aviation agency (ANAC), Embraer’s new business jet, the Praetor 500, received type certification from FAA (USA) and EASA (Europe) agencies this week. This is the same situation as his “brother” Praetor 600, who received the triple certification in the first half of this year.
According to Embraer, the Praetor 500 exceeded its predictions of intercontinental reach during the certification process: “an intercontinental range of 3,340 nautical miles (6,186 km — NBAA IFR Reserves with four passengers), a high-speed cruise of 466 KTAS, -fuel payload of 1,600 lb (726 kg), a takeoff distance of only 4,222 ft (1,287 m) and an unfactored landing distance of 2,086 ft (636 m) For a 1,000-nautical-mile mission, the take-off distance is a mere 2,842 ft (867 m),” the manufacturer explained.
The company also claims that the new mid-sized business jet is the only one in its class to offer Ka band connectivity. Derived from the Legacy 450, the Praetor 500 has been upgraded to offer superior autonomy, capable of nonstop flights such as New York and London or from Sao Paulo to Los Angeles with just one stop.
The key to this superior performance lies in the adoption of the higher thrust Honeywell HTF7500E turbofans as well as the additional fuel capacity. In addition, Embraer applied the same Full Fly-By-Wire technology to the model as used in the new E2 family of commercial jets.
At 1.83 meters in height, its cabin can accommodate up to nine passengers, but the most common configuration is seven seats. Another jet differential is the quiet cabin thanks to turbulence reduction and the cabin altitude of 5,800 feet (1,768 meters).
