Embraer’s E190F freighter is certified by EASA

European approval comes one month after the FAA gave the green light for the aircraft’s commercial operation. The P2F conversion had received type certification in Brazil in July

Embraer has received yet another type certification for the E190F freighter. On November 7, EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) approved the operation of the converted aircraft to carry cargo.

The freighter jet had been certified by the Brazilian ANAC in July, in a very fast process. The approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US civil aviation agency, occurred in October.

As it is an adaptation of the original passenger transport variant, the E190F did not require new documentation. Therefore, the European authority only updated the original information issued in March 2003.

As stated in note 8 of the updated document, “the ERJ 190-100 IGW post-MOD SB 190-25-0270 does not constitute a new model, and it can be referred to in marketing literature as ‘EMBRAER 190F’, ‘E190F’, ‘E-Freighter’.”

EASA, however, reported that the E190F needs a cargo loading system installed, but that it is not included in the current certification.

The E-Freighter program was launched by Embraer in 2022 with the objective of converting the E190 and E195 models to carry 13,150 kg and 14,300 kg of cargo, respectively.

The first E190F was delivered to the lessor Regional One, which would pass it on to an African airline.

The E195 is still in the development phase.
