On July 1st, Emirates Airline began renovating the cabin of its first Boeing 777-300ER. The work is expected to take around two weeks, and will completely renovate the aircraft’s interior, the carrier said.

In the new configuration with 326 seats there will be a new business class with a 1-2-1 configuration and 38 flat bed seats. Emirates will also introduce premium economy class with 24 seats, in addition to eight cabins in First Class and 256 seats in regular economy.

The debut of the refurbished 777 will take place on August 11 on the Dubai-Geneva route. On September 1st it will be Tokyo (Haneda)’s turn and ten days later Brussels, Belgium.

“With the addition of the newly retrofitted Boeing 777s to our fleet, we’re capturing the opportunity to introduce our highly acclaimed products like Premium Economy to more cities already served by this aircraft type in our network, in addition to more variety seating in four classes,” said Adnan Kazim, Emirates Chief Commercial Officer.

Renovation of 81 Boeing 777

The widebody interior update was already expected as Emirates has done similar work on the Airbus A380.

For business class passengers using the Boeing 777, the change in configuration will be welcome as the current layout, with a central seat, has always been criticized.

Emirates said the plan is for 81 Boeing 777-300s to undergo cabin refurbishment, part of a wider program that includes 191 aircraft.

The debut of the refurbished 777 comes amid delays in deliveries of the Airbus A350-900, Emirates’ long-awaited new widebody.

The aircraft was supposed to make its first revenue flight in September, but the schedule was postponed to November, destined for Edinburgh, Scotland.
