Flybondi, a low-cost airline created in Argentina in 2018, resumed its international flights after a long period of inactivity due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company announced the return of flights from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Florianopolis, in Brazil, and Punta del Este, in Uruguay.
According to Flybondi, the tourist city in the south of Brazil, which now has six flights a week, will have eight flights a week in the second half of January. Rio, on the other hand, will have an offer of four weekly flights at the end of this month, double the current offer – Sao Paulo will maintain two flights a week while Punta del Este will have three weekly flights.
“We are already flying to the region and we are excited that Argentines, Brazilians and Uruguayans can travel with us. After more than a year and a half without flying internationally, we are back with very good occupancy levels, which shows the recovery that the sector is undergoing,” said Mauricio Sana, CEO of Flybondi.
However, during the period of no activity, the Argentine government ended operations at El Palomar Airport, which was used by Flybondi and other low-cost airlines due to cheaper airport fees. As a result, the company’s international flights are being carried out at Ezeiza, the largest airport in Buenos Aires.
Flybondi revealed in December plans to expand its fleet, currently with four Boeing 737-800 jets, with 189 seats in a single class.
According to the company, a fifth plane will be received in January and the plan is to reach a fleet of 10 737-800 by July, in order to enable the expansion of the domestic and international network – Flybondi currently serves 13 destinations within Argentina.
