Ukraine will receive another Western fighter jet from early 2025. France has confirmed the delivery of Dassault Mirage 2000 jets to the Ukrainian Air Force after months of planning.

French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu took to social media to say the Mirage 2000s are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of next year.

Lecornu also revealed that the supersonic jets will receive new ground attack and electronic warfare defense equipment in Cazaux, Gironde, before being handed over to Ukraine.

France has been training Ukrainian pilots and ground personnel for some time now, using Alpha Jets, but the Mirage shipments have been on hold while the F-16s have not been delivered, which began in July.

Variant still unknown

Despite the confirmation, the French government has not clarified where the Dassault fighters will be sent from.

Statements have been contradictory, as they have suggested aircraft of the Mirage 2000C variant, which are in storage, but also the Mirage 2000-5F, which is in service with the French Air Force and is more modern and capable.

There are rumors that France may reacquire aircraft sold to Greece, Qatar and Taiwan and that they are being replaced by more advanced fighters.

The Mirage 2000-5F remains active in France, despite being only a complementary fleet to the Rafale. There are about three dozen of them based in Luxeiul, in addition to a detachment in Djibouti.
