EFW announced on September 23 that it is returning to the maintenance market by reaching an agreement with Global Airlines to enable the return to passenger service of the Airbus A380 9H-GLOBL.
The work will begin soon, when the double-decker aircraft will fly from Scotland to Desdren, Germany, where it will undergo scheduled maintenance work, including mandatory inspections and component replacements.
Global Airlines is a British startup founded by James Asquith, which intends to offer flights from London to destinations such as New York and Los Angeles, always with the A380. The carrier’s goal is to launch its first routes in 2025.

Although it has announced the acquisition of some of the retired Airbus aircraft, so far only one ex-China Southern Airlines jet has been received, but it will initially fly with the operator certificate from Hi Fly, from Portugal.
A joint venture between Airbus and ST Engineering, EFW has focused in recent years on converting passenger aircraft to freighters, but has extensive experience with maintaining the A380.
For this reason, the company said it will support other operators of the aircraft, which has been recommissioned after a period of storage during the pandemic.
“Given our years of experience in servicing the A380, we are excited to re-establish our MRO activities for this unique aircraft,” said Jordi Boto, CEO of EFW. “We look forward to supporting our new customer, Global Airlines, with its first A380 and seeing more aircraft of this type back in the sky.”
“Joining forces with EFW is the next significant step in our quest to see our first A380 in the sky,” said James Asquith, CEO and Founder of Global Airlines
