The integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group has begun. According to the German group, the Miles & More frequent flyer program can now earn and redeem miles on flights with the Italian airline.

ITA passengers who are Volare members can now earn and redeem points on flights with Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.

The biggest changes, however, are scheduled for March 30, when ITA Airways will begin to benefit from several aspects of the integration with the group.

One of them will be the move to Frankfurt Terminal 1 and Munich Terminal 2, Lufthansa’s hub airports. This will significantly reduce transfer times.

The change is not necessary in Milan and Rome because the German group’s airlines already operate in the same terminals as ITA.

Also on March 30, passengers of the Italian carrier will have access to Lufthansa’s 130 lounges worldwide.

The reservation systems will also share ITA’s code, which will provide more flight options and flexibility. There will initially be more than 100 flights, according to Lufthansa.

In this case, passengers will be able to book with a shared code from February 25.

Star Alliance in 2026

The two companies are also working harder to offer coordinated flight schedules at hubs, to facilitate connections.

Finally, Lufthansa is already working to have ITA Airways admitted to the Star Alliance, which should happen in the first half of 2026 – the company is already in the process of leaving SkyTeam.

After long negotiations with the Italian government, Lufthansa acquired 41% of ITA Airways’ shares in January for a value of 325 million euros.

“Now that ITA Airways has become a member of our airline family a few days ago, we want to push ahead with the merger quickly, so that ITA and its passengers, as well as the guests of our other passenger airlines, can quickly benefit from the advantages of an expanded Lufthansa Group,” said Carsten Spohr, CEO of the Lufthansa Group.
