ITA this week released a video of the first A330-900neo finishing the painting process at Airbus facilities, however, without the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines installed.

The Italian carrier has ten A330-900neo on order, according to Airbus. The jets will be configured with 291 seats in three classes – 30 in business, 24 in premium economy and 237 in economy.

Currently, ITA Airways flies A330-200 and A350-900 jets on long-haul routes. The airline also announced this week that it will expand weekly frequencies to São Paulo, from the current seven flights to 11 flights.

According to the carrier, “is further evidence of the Company’s strong investment in the Brazilian market and will allow ITA Airways to
further strengthen its expansion in South America, which is a preferred destination for Italian travelers and one of the countries with the largest populations of Italian origin as well”.

Lufthansa’s proposal

The airline that succeeded Alitalia in 2021 has been experiencing losses since the start of the operation. The Italian government, however, expects to sell part of the carrier’s shares to Lufthansa, the only group authorized to negotiate the acquisition of 40% of the airline’s capital.

At the end of January, the German company and the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) signed a letter of intent to that effect. Since then, commercial and operational integration strategies between ITA and Lufthansa have been discussed.
