JetBlue debuted its long-awaited international route between New York (JFK) and London (Heathrow) this Wednesday. Flight number 7 took off from the US late in the evening and was expected to land on the morning of the 12th in the UK.

It is the low-cost airline’s first international flight and has chosen a single-aisle aircraft to compete with competitors such as British Airways, American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic, all of which use widebodies.

JetBlue’s Airbus A321LR features 24 full-flat adaptive-mattress seats in the airline’s Mint premium-class private suites in addition to 114 economy class seats that are 18.4 inches wide.

JetBlue has three A321LR out of a total order for 13 aircraft.

Starting on September 30, JetBlue will launch a second daily flight, but between John F. Kennedy and Gatwick airports, located south of London.
