LATAM Brasil will suspend the route between São Paulo and Rome from October 1, 2019. The airline justified the decision after identifying an excessive offer of flights between Brazil and Europe.
The company said that it is already in contact with customers who bought tickets on the route so that they can make full refunds of their tickets or rearrangement in a similar company.
LATAM flights between São Paulo and Rome were started in March 2018 operated on Boeing 767-300ER jets with a capacity of 221 passengers.
Without LATAM, the only airline to have direct flights between São Paulo and Rome will be Alitalia, which operates two daily flights between the two cities. The Italian company also has a daily frequency between Rio de Janeiro and Rome.
In a statement, LATAM said it will continue to operate the São Paulo-Milan route, as well as all other direct flights to Europe in destinations such as London, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona and Frankfurt.
This is the second international flight suspended by LATAM this year. In February, the company canceled the route between Sao Paulo and Munich, Germany, which would start in June this year. The justification at the time was the same: excessive supply.
However, shortly thereafter Lufthansa, which flew between the two cities until 2016, has announced that it will again operate the route with the new Airbus A350-900.
