A Learjet 35A skidded off the runway while attempting to land at Phoenix-Scottsdale Municipal Airport on Monday. The plane slid out of control until it collided with another business jet, a Gulfstream 200, which was parked.

The violent crash killed the pilot and seriously injured two other passengers. A fourth person suffered minor injuries, according to local authorities.

“The accident occurred at 2:39 p.m. when a Learjet 35A, arriving from Austin, veered off the runway and struck a parked Gulfstream 200. According to initial reports, the Learjet’s left main landing gear failed upon landing, leading to the collision,” a statement from the City of Scottsdale said.

The cockpit of the Learjet 35 was badly damaged. The jet belongs to singer Vince Neil of the band The Mötley Crüe, but he was not on board.

This is the fourth serious aviation accident in the United States since January 28, when a PSA Airlines CRJ-700 regional jet collided in midair with a U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk military helicopter while approaching to land in Washington, D.C. All 64 people on board the plane and three crew members on the helicopter were killed.

Two days later, a Learjet 55 air ambulance crashed shortly after takeoff from Philadelphia, killing all six people on board and one person on the ground.

On February 6, a single-engine turboprop Cessna Grand Caravan crashed in Alaska, killing 10 people.
