Abelo, a Dublin-based lessor focused on turboprops, announced a conversion of an original order for 10 ATR 42 STOLs, a short takeoff and landing variant that was canceled by the manufacturer.

Without the version designed for operations at airports with short runways, Abelo decided to change the contract to five ATR 42-600s and five ATR 72-600s.

In addition, the company added three more ATR 72-600s to the order with ATR.

The Italian-French manufacturer announced at the end of last year that the STOL version of the ATR 42 would no longer be launched on the market, citing that market conditions had changed, with technological and infrastructure advances that reduced the aircraft’s potential.

“By diversifying our fleet with ATR 42-600 and 72-600 aircraft and adding three new ATR 72-600, we continue to provide our customers with exceptional performance, reduced emissions, and enhanced passenger comfort,” said Stephen Gorman, Chief Executive Officer at Abelo.

“With delivery slots secured until 2029, this fleet expansion reaffirms the long-term collaboration between ATR and Abelo and underscores our shared vision of enhancing regional connectivity and providing top-tier air transportation solutions to passengers across diverse networks,” added ATR Chief Executive Officer, Nathalie Tarnaud Laude.
