City Airlines, a new subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, made its debut flight on Wednesday, June 26th. Created to feed the Munich and Frankfurt hubs, the carrier currently operates only one Airbus A320neo.
The inaugural flight took place on the Munich-Birmingham route in England, but later the A320neo also flew to Dusseldorf in Germany.
On Thursday, June 27th, the Munich-Bremen flight is expected to debut. On Saturday, City Airlines to Hannover and Cologne/Bonn, both in Germany.

New destinations will be served from July 27th, when the A319 jet will begin operating on flights to Berlin, Hamburg and Bordeaux.
The airline’s aircraft fleet comprises four A319ceo and one A320neo, but Lufthansa intends to transfer eight more aircraft to its subsidiary gradually.
City Airlines’ main aircraft will be the A220-300, which will be delivered new by Airbus from 2026.
With the new low-cost subsidiary, the German group plans to feed the routes of the parent airline Lufthansa, and thus compete with companies such as Ryanair and easyjet.
