The Lufthansa Group has ordered five more A350-1000 widebodies from Airbus, the company announced on Friday.
The additional order brings the total number of aircraft to 15 jets, as the company had already agreed to 10 A350-1000s in March 2023.
With 15% more seating capacity than the A350-900, the new aircraft will be delivered between 2028 and 2031. Lufthansa will begin receiving the 10 A350-1000s from the first order in 2026.

The German group also has 60 orders for the A350-900, of which 28 have already been delivered since 2016. There are another four widebodies that came second-hand to the airline.
“Our order today underscores our great confidence in our long-standing, close and successful partnership with Airbus. With the state-of-the-art A350 long-haul jets, we are accelerating the largest fleet modernization in our history,” said Carsten Spohr, CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
It is worth remembering that Lufthansa is expected to transfer some of the aircraft to other subsidiaries of the group such as Swiss. To date, the company has ordered 770 aircraft from Airbus.
The A350-1000 boost comes amid persistent delays in the certification of Boeing’s 777-9, Airbus’ rival aircraft. Lufthansa is the launch customer for the large-seat twin-engine jet, but the planemaker is not expected to deliver the first planes until 2026.
