The Luftwaffe last week unveiled the first Airbus A321neo, which will be received in 2022. The aircraft is part of an order for two jets of the LR (Long Range) version and will be used for troop transport and medical evacuation.
The contract was signed with Lufthansa Technik, which will adapt the two planes to carry out various missions, in the midst of 18 planned configurations.
The Luftwaffe A321neo will be able to carry up to 163 passengers or adapted to accommodate six intensive care patients or twelve with mild and moderate illnesses. It is also possible to convert the aircraft to mixed configurations.
The two A321LR were acquired in July of last year and delivered by Airbus to Lufthansa Technik in August and October without the interior configured.
The schedule foresees the delivery of both in the first quarter of 2022. The long-range version of the A321neo is 20% more economical, which translates into a 900 km longer range.
The German government justified the purchase of the aircraft last year because of transport needs arising during the Covid-19 pandemic.
