Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has invited potential parties interested in acquiring its six Airbus A380 jets to submit purchase proposals for the aircraft by 12 August.
Malaysia Airlines’ parent company has included the double-deck widebodies in its restructuring plan.
The invitation published by the carrier on LinkedIn also includes the components associated with the aircraft. Malaysia had announced the withdrawal of the A380 from its plans in May.
The six planes were delivered between 2012 and 2013 by Airbus. In March of last year, with the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia suspended flights with the A380.
Two months later, however, the company adapted the A380 freighters, hastily adapted to hold 26 tons of cargo.
Malaysia Airlines joins Air France and Hi Fly as former A380 operators. That group will soon be joined by airlines such as Thai, Qatar and Etihad as other customers still keep their planes stored while waiting for a clearer picture.
