Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, took delivery of its first Airbus A330-200 on January 6, through a lease from TrueNoord.
The aircraft is also the first widebody for the carrier founded in 2000 and will enable the launch of long-haul flights, initially to destinations in China.
The A330 is configured with three classes and 264 seats, with 18 in Business, 36 in Premium Economy and 210 in Economy.

Maldivian confirmed that the first flights will be to Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, but did not say when they will begin.
Routes to Europe and South Africa are also planned, the airline explained.
A tourist destination known for its many paradisiacal islands, the Maldives are located south of India, a country that is currently served by Maldivian with its only Airbus A320, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The fleet also includes 20 turboprops, including ATR 42, ATR 72, Dash 8 and DHC-6 models, which operate flights between the islands.
