A new initiative by the Iberostar group aimed at the leisure segment, the airline World2Fly takes delivery of the first A350-900 from a two-plane leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation.
The Airbus aircraft is configured with 432 single-class seats and will be used on the Spanish company’s routes between Madrid and the Caribbean from June 19th.
Among World2Fly’s far-reaching destinations are Punta Cana, Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Cancun (Mexico) and La Habana (Cuba).
The airline’s two A350-900s will feature the Airspace cabin, with wide seats and the latest-generation in-flight entertainment and connectivity system.
World2Fly will also use the A330-300 aircraft configured with 388 seats for less demanding destinations. The new airline, which had been planned for several years, was announced last year and obtains its air operator certificate (AOC) in April.
The Iberostar group hopes to benefit from the purchase agreement of another leisure airline, Air Europa, to obtain more slots at Madrid’s Barajas Airport.
The airline, which belonged to rival group Globalia, was sold to the IAG in 2019, but the deal is still pending approval from the European antitrust authority.
One of the possibilities is that Iberia, part of the IAG group, will transfer positions at the main airport in the Spanish capital to World2Fly.
