Ed Wegel, who was the president of Eastern Airlines and CEO of GlobalX, announced on his Linkedin account that his new carrier, Zoom Airlines, will debut with Embraer E-Jets.
Wegel, who is currently heading Avi8 Air Capital, plans to create a new airline from Florida that follows a similar strategy to Breeze Airways, founded by David Neeleman.

Like Breeze, Zoom plans to fly the Airbus A220 in the future. “We are moving forward on our scheduled airline operation, and we will launch with the Embraer E190/195 E1, as we await Airbus A220s in a few years,” explained Wegel.
Zoom appears to be the new name for Air Florida, an airline that had been announced by the same businessman with plans to operate a flight network from the state in the south of the United States.
“Zoom! will work closely with UrbanLink to connect passengers- and UrbanLink pilots- who will start with 500 hours- will build flight hours until they can move to Zoom’s 190s and eventually 220s- we will home grow our cockpit crews,” added Wegel, who also leads the startup UrbanLink.
The company was created to operate LiliumJet eVTOLs, with 20 aircraft ordered to establish a network of urban air mobility flights.
Ed Wegel, however, did not specify when Zoom will debut its flights or the initial size of the fleet.
