Wreckage of 737-200C crashing in Hawaii

The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) released underwater images of the wreckage of the Boeing 737-200C that made a landing at sea after problems with its two engines on July 2nd.

The aircraft, operated by the airline Transair (Rhoades Aviation), had taken off from Honolulu Airport and 23 minutes later made an emergency landing on water. The two crew were rescued without serious injuries.

NTSB images show the 737-200 split in half, with the Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines separated from the wings.

The N810TA registration jet was part of a fleet of six 737-200 converted to freighters. The aircraft has operated for 46 years after being delivered in October 1975 to the defunct airline Pacific Western Airlines.

Transair began operating the Boeing 737 in 2014 on cargo flights in Hawaii. Flight T4810 was supposed to have flown to Kaluhui Airport on the island of Maui, 162 km away from Honolulu.

The causes of the accident are not yet known.
