Romanian airline Animawings is the newest operator of the Airbus A220. The first of four A220-300s arrived in Bucharest in recent days from Mirabel in Canada.
The aircraft was leased by Azorra, which will also supply three other A220s – the second of which will be delivered in 2024.
Founded in 2019, Animawings belongs to a local tourism group and at one point had a 25% stake in Aegean Airlines.
With only one operational A320, the airline will reinforce its fleet with two more jets of the type in addition to the four A220s.

The A220-300, registered YH-CHR, is configured with 137 seats in two classes (12 in business and 125 in economy) and will debut flights between Bucharest and Dubai from December 27.
With the expansion of its fleet, Animawings intends to serve destinations such as Paris, Stockholm, Larnaca, Marrakesh, Nice and Ibiza, in addition to domestic routes.
“We are delighted to be the first company in Romania to have in its fleet such a modern and spacious aircraft, perfectly suited to our vision as a smart cost company,” said Marius Pandel, AnimaWings shareholder.
John Evans, CEO and Founder, Azorra, said: “We are proud to deliver the first new Airbus A220-300 to our friends at AnimaWings, made possible through our strong relationship with Airbus. This marks a significant milestone as the first of its type in Romania.”
