SKY Express confirmed an order for six new ATR 72-600, the first of which has already been delivered on June 30th. The remaining five turboprops will be delivered by the end of the year, ATR said.
Founded in 2005, SKY has shown great growth in recent years. The carrier is already an ATR customer with a fleet of 10 turboprops (5 ATR 42-500 and 5 ATR 72-500). The airline also operates six Airbus A320neo, received in the last eight months.
“We are expanding and modernising our fleet, increasing the number of destinations and developing our operations. The acquisition of six new state-of-the-art ATR 72-600 aircraft is yet another landmark in SKY express’ course,” said Ioannis Grylos, CEO of the IOGR Group of companies, which SKY is part of.
“We are proud when an airline chooses ATR aircraft for their fleet renewal, as moving from the -500 to the -600 series shows the value of our continuous development policy. SKY express will benefit from the latest-generation upgradeable avionics suite and its passengers will enjoy a modern, comfortable cabin,” said ATR Chief Executive, Stefano Bortoli.
In service for 10 years, the ATR 72-600 starts operating in 54 countries, with a total of 550 aircraft delivered, says the ATR.
“The ATR 72-600 burns up to 40% less fuel and emits up to 40% less CO2 than a similarly-sized regional jet,” added the French-Italian company.
