Embraer today announced that it has signed another contract with SkyWest for a firm order for seven 70-passenger E175 jets. It is the second order placed by the company this year and valued at $ 340 million. The deal was already part of planemaker’s backlog in the second quarter of 2019 as an “undisclosed customer”. Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
“Since 2013, SkyWest has purchased more than 160 E175s, including these seven, in order to expand their large fleet of Embraer aircraft,” said Charlie Hillis, Embraer Commercial Aviation North America Sales and Marketing Director.
SkyWest operates through partnerships with United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines. The seven new E175s ordered, for example, will fly through Delta Connection, Delta’s regional division.
“Having a longtime partner like Embraer, who understands us and our business, has allowed us to enhance our fleet mix and ensure efficiency and agility in our network,” said Chip Childs, CEO and President of SkyWest.
SkyWest is Embraer’s largest customer, with about 140 E175 jets in service. In the past, the US company also had the largest EMB-120 Brasilia turboprop fleet in the world, with 62 aircraft. The company flew with this plane between 1985 and 2015.
