Star Air, India’s regional airline, received its third Embraer E175 on August 16, through leasing with Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) – the contract provides for a total of four aircraft.

Like the first two jets, received in February and March, Star Air’s E175 is configured with two classes and 76 seats – 12 seats in business class and 2+1 configuration (36-inch pitch) and 64 seats in economy (2 +2 and 31-inch pitch).

“We are delighted to welcome our third Embraer E175LR aircraft to our growing fleet,” said Mr. Sanjay Ghodawat, Chairman, Star Air.

I congratulate each individual at Star Air for the fast paced growth and their true dedication to Connecting Real India. With network extensions this aircraft will enable, I am confident we will touch more regional towns in India.”

Indeed, Star Air is experiencing rapid expansion in its routes. The Bangalore, southern India-based carrier was founded in 2018 and already has a fleet of eight jets, all Embraer – three E175s and five ERJ 145s.

The airline currently flies to 18 destinations, but promises to open more routes after the arrival of the third E175.

Former Belavia aircraft

Star Air’s three E175s previously flew on Belavia, the Belarusian airline, but were returned in November 2021 after a diplomatic incident led by the country’s government.

In May of that year, a Ryanair Boeing 737-800 flying from Athens to Vilnius, Lithuania, was forced to land in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, where two passengers, a journalist critical of the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, and his girlfriend, were seized.

The incident motivated several countries in the West to impose sanctions on Belarus, including taking back commercial aircraft operated by Belavia on a lease basis.
