The world’s best-selling Brazilian military aircraft, Embraer Super Tucano can be part of the company’s partnership with Boeing in defense, Embraer’s financial vice president Nelson Salgado said on Thursday.

The two manufacturers have already confirmed the creation of a joint venture to promote and develop new markets for the KC-390 multi-mission freighter. This is a business parallel to the transfer of control of 80% of Embraer’s commercial aviation area to Boeing. In this contract, the Brazilian company will have a majority stake.

“The defense partnership is not limited to the KC-390. It is the initial focus of the partnership … There is no restriction on the Super Tucano not being treated by Boeing (in the partnership), “Salgado said in a conference call with reporters after Embraer disclosed its financial result for the fourth quarter 2018.

The Embraer executive also said that the manufacturer plans to deliver 10 Super Tucano in 2019 and the first unit of the KC-390. The first customer of the military freighter will be the Brazilian Air Force, which ordered a total of 28 aircraft.

Embraer’s partnerships with Boeing in the areas of commercial aviation and defense must be consolidated by the end of this year. The two joint ventures have already been approved by shareholders of the Brazilian manufacturer and also by the Brazilian government, which owns shares of the company with veto power.

Super Tucano is already produced in the USA

Since 2013, the Super Tucano is also produced in the United States. The Brazilian aircraft, called the A-29, is produced by the Sierra Nevada Corporation, Embraer’s partner. As A-29 Airplanes produced on US soil have already been purchased by the US Air Force and have also been sold to countries such as Afghanistan and Lebanon.
