Swiss, airline that is part of the Lufthansa group, is facing an unusual problem: the new first class seats on the Airbus A330-300 are too heavy.
The new cabins will be offered from the end of 2025 and are part of the project called Swiss Senses, which offers greater privacy and wider seats for the company’s premium passengers.
But these amenities result in heavier seats, destabilizing the plane’s center of gravity, CNN reported.

The solution proposed by the airline is also unusual: installing counterweights in economy class to stabilize the center of gravity.
The plan, according to Swiss, is to fly with the extra weight on the A330-300 while the company studies solutions to the plane’s imbalance.
The new first class is also being installed on the Boeing 777-300ER, but the weight did not result in an imbalance. The four A340-300s will not have the new interiors because they are in the process of being decommissioned.
Paradoxically, the economy class seats will be lighter than the current ones.
Swiss has 14 A330-300s in operation, which are mainly used on routes to the East Coast of the United States, Canada and the Middle East. They were received between 2009 and 2013.
