TAAG Angola Airlines received its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in Luanda, part of an order for four aircraft announced in October 2023.
The aircraft took off from Pane Field/Everett on Wednesday, landing in the Angolan capital the following day, where it was received in a ceremony.
With 313 seats, TAAG’s 787-9 was named “Namibe” and will debut flights to Portugal and Brazil. It also displays the airline’s new livery, which debuted on its first Airbus A220-300, received last September.
The A220 is an exception in a fleet dominated by Boeing aircraft. In addition to the 787-9, TAAG flies seven 737-700s, three 777-200s and five 777-300s – there are also six Dash 8-400 turboprops.
TAAG took delivery of its first Boeing in 1976, a 737-200.
The aircraft with registration number D2-TEQ is an old acquaintance of spotters.
It is the former 787 N8572C, a demonstration aircraft from the manufacturer that displayed a preview livery of Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s new carrier, but was later returned.
