Two LATAM Airlines aircraft collided on the ground on Tuesday at Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Airbus A320neo jet, registration PR-XBG, was leaving the passenger terminal at approximately 8:24 a.m. when its right wingtip struck the tail of the Airbus A319, registration PT-TMA.
The collision was recorded by an airport security camera and shows the A319 ‘bouncing’ as the A320’s wing oscillates after the contact.

The right wing of the A320neo, which has a winglet, was badly damaged and appeared to be misaligned. The A319 had a damaged tail cone where the APU, the auxiliary power unit, is located.
Both aircraft were taken out of service and replaced by other aircraft.
In a statement, LATAM stated that “the event did not put any of the passengers and crew of both aircraft at risk, who were disembarked normally and in complete safety. The aircraft were sent for maintenance inspections and all customers will be relocated to other flights of the company. LATAM is cooperating with the investigations of CENIPA (Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents) to clarify the event.”
