Two French Air Force Dassault Rafale fighters collided in flight in the east of the country after returning from a mission in Germany.
The aircraft from Transition Squadron 3/4 Aquitaine crashed and the pilot of one of them had been located while searches continued for the two occupants of the second jet.
“An accident involving two Rafales from the Rafale 3/4 ‘Aquitaine’ Transition Squadron took place in Meurthe et Moselle. One of the pilots has been found, he is safe and sound. The search is still ongoing,” the Minister wrote in X of French Defense, Sébastien Lecornu.

The aircraft involved had been refueled in flight and were a single-seater Rafale C and a two-seater Rafale B.
Based at Saint-Dizier-Robinson Air Base, the 3/4 Aquitaine Transition Squadron is responsible for advanced training on the Dassault fighter.
France has around 90 Rafale fighters in the Air Force in addition to 40 Rafale M aircraft in the Navy, which operate from the aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle.
