Two Embraer T-27 Tucano aircraft belonging to the Brazilian Air Force Academy (AFA) collided on Friday while flying near the Pirassununga Air Base, in southern Brazil.
The two aircraft were taking part in a formation flight for the graduation of AFA cadets, with the instructor piloting the lead aircraft and a cadet flying the other T-27 as wingman.
During the flight, an incident occurred that caused the two aircraft to collide, with the T-27 of the leader making a controlled emergency landing on the air base runway.

However, the T-27 Tucano piloted by the cadet had difficulty maintaining flight until landing and, accompanied by the instructor, the pilot ejected.
According to the Air Force, the pilot arrived safely on the ground.

The Air Force Academy has begun an investigation to determine the factors contributing to the mid-air collision, conducted by the AFA’s Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Section, following the rules of the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention System (SIPAER).
This is the second aircraft that the FAB has lost in recent weeks. An F-5EM fighter that was to participate in the CRUZEX exercise crashed on October 23 after an engine failure.
Official statement from the Brazilian Air Force:
“The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) informs that, on Friday, two T-27 Tucano aircraft, used in training cadets at the Air Force Academy (AFA), collided during a training flight in Pirassununga.
One aircraft landed safely, while the other was directed to an uninhabited area. The pilot successfully ejected from the aircraft and was subsequently rescued by a FAB rescue team.”
