Wamos Air is officially the new member of Abra Group, the holding company that controls carriers Avianca, from Colombia, and Gol, from Brazil.

The Spanish wet-leasing and charter airline has acquired an undisclosed stake after payment of 129 million euros.

Abra and Wamos had signed an agreement in May on the condition that the airline maintain its operational and brand independence.

Regulatory approvals were recently obtained, which allowed the ratification of the agreement.

Wamos Air was founded in 2003 but only began operations in 2014 and today maintains a fleet of 13 Airbus A330-200s and -300s that fly for other airlines.

“We are very pleased to announce that the strategic investment in Wamos Air by our Group is now a reality. This development is consistent with Abra’s consolidation strategy, which seeks to bring together iconic companies,” said Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of the Abra Group.

“We are very satisfied to have completed this transaction, which marks the beginning of a new chapter for Wamos Air. The Abra Group is a key industry reference, and we are extremely proud to say that, as of today, we are part of it,” said Enrique Saiz, CEO of Wamos Air.

“With this investment, we officially welcome Wamos Air to our Group. We know that their leadership and expertise will greatly contribute to further consolidating Abra as one of the leading air transport groups in Latin America,” said Constantino de Oliveira Junior, Chairman of the Abra Group.
